2nd Annual Wine Weekend

Good Morning! I hope your week is off to a great start!

We had a fun weekend with lots of friends visiting for our 2nd annual wine tour. Last year I had the idea to invite down a bunch of my college friends to go on a chartered wine tour to 3 vineyards about an hours drive from our house. We had so much fun that we decided to do it again this year! We had a full house with 8 people visiting from out of town and a bunch of our friends and family from the area coming to spend the day going on the wine tour with us. Big shout out to our Boston friends Sarah and Kris who drove through the night on Friday after their flight was cancelled to be there with us!

The day started out with brunch and mimosas at our house before the bus picked us up at 11:30am to head out to the vineyards. We had a spread of mixed berry french toast (it was a big hit – I want to share the recipe soon!), banana chocolate chip muffins, munchkins, quiches and a bisquick egg bake (recipe coming to the blog tomorrow!).

I made everything ahead of time so all I had to do was warm it up in the morning, which worked out great. The brunch is a great way to kick off the day, everyone gets to visit and get something in their stomachs before a day of wine tasting!

Even Layla had a friend for the weekend – little Lucy – a Boston Terrier that belongs to 3 of my girlfriends that came down from NYC. Layla loved Lucy, as she does all dogs, but we aren’t really sure how Lucy felt about Layla…

But I think this picture pretty much sums it up, haha!

Last year we visited 3 vineyards, but this year we decided to cut it down to 2 so we could spend more time at each! We went to Barrel Oak Winery and Blue Valley Vineyard in Delaplane, VA. We loved Barrel Oak (we went here last year as well) they are very easy going, large group and dog friendly (we need to bring Layla out their soon!). Blue Valley Vineyard worked for us this year because it was an incredibly hot day and they have a large indoor, air conditioned space, but next year we will probably try some place new.

Big thanks to all of our friends who made the trip down to visit us and endured the heat! We’re thinking we will push wine weekend to the fall next year to avoid another 100 degree day 🙂
