Wedding Wednesday – Tandem Bike Theme!

During our wedding a lot of people asked the significance of the tandem bike. Now, I wish that I had a cute story where Walter and I rode a tandem bike through the country side picking sunflowers on our first date, but that is just not true, haha. When I was designing our wedding website on The Knot.com they had a tandem bike as one of the themes you could choose from. I fell in love with it and decided to run with the idea. At first I was going to just stick with a color theme – sea foam, navy blue and gold/yellow. But adding the tandem bike made it really easy to pull the theme together throughout the wedding.

Invitations – I had an idea of what I wanted the invitation to look like, so I commisioned a graphic designer off Fiverr to help me design it. For just $25 a designer turned my idea into reality and designed templates for the whole invitation suite. I was then able to pass the templates on to a printer who printed the designs on sea foam colored paper. I was a little nervous about designing our invitations because we were not able to see the finished product until the end. But they ended up turning out just as I imagined them and we were really happy with the finished product!

Stamps – My mom found tandem bike rubber stamps that we used to stamp the menus, favors and thank you notes. The stamps were a budget friendly way to incorporate the tandem bike into a lot of small aspects of the decor!

Cufflinks – Walter wore wooden tandem bike cufflinks that I found off Etsy! I love that they were also classic, rustic looking. It was something small that no one noticed, but to me it was a special part of the theme since Walter was the only one wearing them. It’s also one of the only parts of his wedding attire that he actually gets to keep!

Real Life Tandem Bike – Friends of ours lent us their tandem bike to use as a prop for pictures. We attached a basket filled with fake fruit. Little did we know the bike would provide so much entertainment! Walter and his best man, Aaron, hopped on the bike as soon as we arrived at the bridge for pictures and rode it around the parking lot, dropping and smashing fruit everywhere! Aaron was helping me with my bouquet when we got off the trolley and rather than abandon his duties he rode the bike carrying my bouquet! Too funny! We also had the bike set up at the reception and guests had fun taking pictures with it.

Toasting Glasses –  These were also off Etsy! They have a tandem bike, our names and the date engraved in them! They are a nice keep-sake to remember the day by.

Peachwik Guest Book – Instead of a traditional guest book we had a canvas made by a company called Peachwik. They call themselves “the modern keepsake collection” and they focus on putting a modern spin on more traditional ideas. In this case, that traditional idea was a guest book and it fit our theme perfectly! We got to choose the text at the bottom “Laura & Walter – 4.9.16 – Hitting the road on a wonderful ride, we’ll ride together side by side” and the colors of the balloons. Each guest signed their name or wrote a short message in each balloon! People seemed to like that it was something a little different and we like it because it will be something we can hang up and remember all the people who shared the day with us!

Cake Topper – Another Etsy find! I love this cake topper, I think it was my favorite part of the tandem bike theme. I loved that it was gold and sparkly! I didn’t want a crazy elaborate cake and I think the cake topper added just enough pizzaz to make the cake really cute!

Having the tandem bike theme added an extra layer of detail that was fun and easy to pull off. It also helped tie everything together and left guests with something unique to remember our wedding day by!
