2016 Cooking Goals

IMG_7444Hello there! With the new year underway I wanted to share with you the 5 foods I am aspiring to make in 2016. They are all pretty random, but I have been thinking about making these things for a while now, hopefully sharing them with you will help me follow through!

Sesame Balls with Red Bean Paste

Almost 3 years ago when my brother graduated from business school they had these at the post-grad reception. They were AMAZING and ever since I have been craving them! This could be my imagination/I loved them so much I am exaggerating them in my head, but I remember them being huge and warm and just oh so delicious! I am definitely most nervous about these, I think they will be the hardest of my aspirations, so I plan to start working on them soon!

Baked Doughnuts

I don’t love doughnut dough, but I love, love, LOVE doughnut frosting! Baked doughnuts are more like a dense cake, but with doughnut frosting – best of both worlds! Plus doughnuts are so pretty and you can get really creative with them. I’m going to have fun with this one!

Flourless Chocolate Cake

Such an underrated dessert in my opinion. It is like a giant piece of fudge, but for some reason it has this sophisticated ora to it, so instead of feeling bad about eating the giant piece of fudge you feel regal. I don’t know why I never think it make/why no one ever makes it. Maybe it is harder than I think? Probably. If you don’t see it here over the next 12 months you will know I failed πŸ™‚

Homemade Cinnamon Buns

Pillsbury Cinnamon Buns were one of my favorites growing up because, well, frosting… again. I loved that I got to put on my own frosting, but they never gave you enough – I could use that whole little tub on my 1 bun πŸ™‚ So you better believe the cinnamon buns I whip up this year will be dripping in the good stuff.

Eggs Benedict

Confession – I have never poached an egg before… up until about college I hated eggs, the smell, texture, everything. I love them now, but I feel like I am behind in my egg cooking abilities due to my childhood aversion. Eggs Benedict is one of my favorite things to order when I go out to brunch, so I need to try it at home!

Looks like I will be hosting a pretty delicious brunch at the end of the year if all goes well. I did not mean to make this list so breakfast/brunch focused, but oh well, who doesn’t like a good brunch? Wish me luck!

(I give you a sleepy pup because this post lacks pictures, it’s cold out and it’s only Wednesday)

What are your cooking/baking aspirations for 2016?

Anyone have any advice for me on the above?
