How to Roll an Egg Roll

How to Roll an Egg Roll

How you roll the egg rolls is the most important step! You will want to ensure that you wrap your egg rolls well so the filling does not fall out.  Wrapping egg rolls is simple to do, just follow the steps below and see photos above!

  1. Lay out one egg roll wrapper on a clean, flat surface
  2. Place about 2 tbsp of the pork filling in one of the corners
  3. Pull that corner up and roll towards the opposite corner
  4. Tuck in the sides to keep the filling in as you roll
  5. Using your finger, wet about 1/2″ of the opposite corner with a little bit of water
  6. Roll all the way to the corner and press the wet corner against the egg roll to seal.

Why make egg rolls in the Air Fryer?

Making egg rolls in the air fryer is easy! Traditionally egg rolls are made in a deep fryer, most people do not have a deep fryer at home and even if you do they can be very messy with grease spitting everywhere. With an air fryer the frying is contained to the appliance for easy clean up!

Air fryer egg rolls are also much healthier than deep fried.  Air fryers use an intense heat circulation system to “fry” the food in their baskets. Just a little bit of oil goes a long way in making these egg rolls crispy through air frying!

Best Dips for Air Fryer Egg Rolls

I like to dip these egg rolls in hoisin sauce. The thick, sweet sauce pairs well with the filling. Another good option is sweet chili sauce. But those are just my suggestions, you could use any sauce you like. I find that thicker dipping sauces go best with egg rolls.

Can I freeze egg rolls?

Yes! You can prep these egg rolls ahead of time and freeze them for up to 3 months. Make the filling, roll the egg rolls and then freeze them for air frying later. You will need to flash freeze them on a tray or plate where they are not touching each other before transferring them to an air tight container for long-term freezing. If you do not flash freeze them they may stick together. When you want to air fry the egg rolls, you can do it from frozen! Increase the air fry time to 12 minutes from 8 and voilà! You have crispy air fried egg rolls on demand 🙂
