There is a lot of talk about collagen these days. Collagen, by definition is “the most abundant protein found in skin and other connective tissues.” It’s well known in the health and beauty world to help promote hair, nails and skin. I started taking Vital Proteins collagen regularly around the beginning of this year. It dissolves best in hot water, so it is most common to see people putting it in their morning coffee.

But I’m not always home in the morning and I don’t always drink coffee. Part of the deal with collagen is that you need to be taking it consistently to see real results with your hair, skin and nails, so I decided to try putting it into a snack I could take on-the-go! These Birthday Cake Collagen Fat Balls are loaded with healthy benefits. In addition to the collagen, they are made with raw cashews, honey and coconut butter. Cashews are packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants as well as provide 5 grams of protein per serving. The honey is an alternative sweetener and helps to hold the balls together. The coconut butter helps boast your metabolism which helps aid in weight loss and, bonus, it can help give your hair a shine!

These Birthday Cake Collagen Fat Balls are so simple! Just combine the raw cashews, collagen peptides, honey and coconut oil in the bowl of your food processor and process on high for 3-5 minutes until the mixture is smooth and you can form it into balls with your hands. Finish them off by rolling them in sprinkles and they are ready for eating!

The sprinkles are just a fun factor and provide no nutritional benefit. If you prefer to omit them that is entirely your choice. Or you could sub in something else like shredded coconut, mini chocolate chips or cocoa powder.

Since I have been taking collagen for a few months now you may be wondering what results I have seen. The main thing I have noticed is with my nails, they grow so much faster and are very thick. Also, a weird thing that has been happening is that when I have a gel manicure the manicure stays on for so much longer than it used to… now I don’t know if that is because of the collagen or improvements in gel nail polish, but I have noticed it since I started taking it regularly! In addition, I know it is doing good things internally for my bones and joints which is enough to make me feel healthier 🙂
