Double Dipped Black and White Muddy Buddies

These Double Dipped Black & White Muddy Buddies are seriously addicting! Since I’m writing about them I figured it’s only fitting that I’m sitting here snacking on them πŸ™‚ My mom and I always make muddy buddies around Christmas time, they are one of my favorite treats and it doesn’t quite feel like Christmas without them! I’ve always called them Muddy Buddies, but I find that whenever I am talking about them and refer to them as such people look at me like I have 2 heads because they seem to be more commonly known as “puppy chow”. But no matter what you call them, they are delicious!

This year I decided to make them even more addicting by double dipping them. These muddy buddies are first dipped in white chocolate peanut butter, cooled and then dipped in dark chocolate peanut butter before taking a bath in powdered sugar.

First you will want to melt your white chocolate, I did this in the microwave, but you can also do it in a double boiler. If you do it in the microwave, especially for the white chocolate, use the defrost function rather than the heat. White chocolate is very temperamental and burns easily when exposed to high heat. Defrost will take quite a bit longer, up to 5 minutes depending on how often you stop to stir it, but it’s worth it because you are far less likely to ruin your chocolate.

It’s important to let the white chocolate covered Chex dry completely (about 1 hour) before coating them in the dark chocolate.

I go a little overboard on the powdered sugar. But I really like my muddy buddies completely coated in a thick powdered sugar coating. I don’t like when you can see the chex through the toppings. Using so much powdered sugar you will definitely be left with some excess. That’s ok, it makes a great ice cream topping πŸ™‚
