Sweet and Sour Tofu

This Sweet and Sour Tofu is a delicious vegetarian dinner recipe made with crispy tofu, onions, bell peppers and pineapple in a tangy sweet and sour sauce!

Remember that Crispy Air Fryer Tofu recipe I shared recently? Here is a delicious way to put it to use! The crispy tofu tastes amazing coated in the tangy sweet and sour sauce and paired with onions, peppers and pineapple!

Why Should I use air fryer tofu for this recipe?

If you haven’t checked out my Crispy Air Fryer Tofu recipe you are missing out! The tofu comes out perfectly crispy and takes only 15 minutes in the air fryer. It is perfect in this recipe, the crispy outer coating clings to the sweet and sour sauce creating a sort of glaze on the tofu that is absolutely delicious!

Also, you can make the tofu in the air fryer while you are making the sauce and sautéing the onions, peppers and pineapple! This ability to double-task makes it a quick and easy dinner!

If you don’t have an air fryer I would highly suggest getting one! But until then, you can make this recipe with baked or pan fried tofu as well.

How to Make the Sweet and Sour Sauce

The sauce is simple, made from pantry ingredients you almost certainly already have on hand! It’s a mixture of Ketchup and Honey (the “sweet”) and White Vinegar (the “sour”) along with a variety of spices and some corn starch to help it thicken.

All you have to do to make the sauce is combine the ingredients and whisk them together. Then pour the sauce into the skillet to coat the vegetables, pineapple and tofu!

How to Serve Sweet and Sour Tofu

I prefer to serve this recipe with plain white rice, the dish is very flavorful, so pairing it with something simple makes sense. You could also serve it with brown rice, quinoa or skip the grain and serve it on it’s own.

I like to top mine with toasted sesame seeds and some diced green onions. These garnishes add a nice little crunch, I highly recommend adding them if they appeal to you!
