By the end of the series you will have an appetizer (these meatballs), a salad, many options for main dishes and an easy dessert to throw a very delicious Thai Dinner Party! These Thai Green Curry Meatballs with Sweet Chili Sauce are a sweet and spicy finger food that make the perfect appetizer! They are easy to make and even easier to eat!
What goes into Thai Green Curry Meatballs
The base of the meatballs is ground chicken, I chose chicken over beef because it’s milder and takes on more of the flavors added to it. The chicken is spiced and flavored with green curry paste (you can make your own or use store bought), soy sauce, fish sauce and salt. The meatballs are bound together with egg and bread crumbs. After they are formed into balls and pan fried, they are smothered in sweet chili sauce.
How to Serve Thai Green Curry Meatballs
The great thing about these meatballs is that they are a low maintenance appetizer. They only take about 20 minutes to make and they don’t have to be eaten hot out of the pan. They taste great warm, but they taste just as good at room temperature. That means you can make them, clean up and have the meatballs ready to go when guests arrive. Serve the meatballs in a bowl or on a platter. Finish them off with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and serve with toothpicks for easy grab-and-eat!
1 pound ground chicken
2 tbsp green curry paste*
1 tbsp dark soy sauce
1 tbsp fish sauce
1/4 cup plain bread crumbs
1/4 tsp salt
2 tbsp olive oil
1/3 cup sweet chili sauce
Add the ground chicken, green curry paste, soy sauce, fish sauce, egg, bread crumbs and salt to a large bowl
Using clean hands, mix until all the ingredients are fully combined
Use your hands** to form the meatballs into bite-sized balls
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat
Add the meatballs, cook on each side for 2-3 minutes, until they are browned all the way around and cooked through (about 8 minutes)
Use a slotted spoon to remove the meatballs from the skillet and place on a paper towel to soak up any excess grease.
Add the meatballs to a medium sized bowl, pour the sweet chili sauce over the meatballs and toss to coat
Transfer meatballs to a serving bowl or platter, sprinkle with sesame seeds
Serve with toothpicks
*amount may vary depending on your heat tolerance and how spicy your green curry paste is.
**Or use a cookie scoop to make even meatballs
